- Video-analysis: waarom AZ goud in handen heeft met Van Duijl.
SC Cambuur, after a very poor start to the Eredivisie season, is starting to improve its results. Coach Johan Plat's team did not score a single point in the first four games, but they have already scored eight points in the last four games. After the defeat against FC Twente, Plat switched from a three-back system to a two-centre-back formation. In this new formation, Billy van Duijl, loaned from AZ, performs very well and forms a solid duo with Ismaël Baoufa. Does improving the team's performance only involve changing the formation? It's hard to judge, but the addition of van Duijl certainly brings many benefits to the team. Let's take a look at his defensive play based on video analysis. As is often the case with central defenders, their defensive play is rarely shown in match highlights. It is good to have a defender in the team who can read the game well and anticipate opponents' movements. In these aspects, Van Duijl performs very well. In this shot, striker Vangelis Pavlidis from the opposing team played the ball to a colleague in the penalty area, but van Duijl anticipated this move and blocked the pass. In this example, the opponent's player had two options to play the ball, either to the striker in the penalty area or to the player who was on the right side of the pitch. Van Duijl, however, simply blocked the other player's path, forcing him to play the other way. What about van Duijl's play when his team has been drinking?
a bunch? Here you can also see that he is a very intelligent player. In this example, he receives the ball from the goalkeeper and instead of playing to the central defender who is in the same line as him, he plays the ball to the midfielder who is deeper on the pitch. In this example, we also have a situation where the goalkeeper played the ball. Van Duijl receives the ball, this time on the left side of the pitch, and again has two options to choose from. He can play to the defender standing next to him, or he can take a risk and play to a player who is positioned deeper on the pitch. And here we see that he chooses the second option, which proves that he is a player who thinks about how to put the ball into play, not just about taking it out of play. And finally, an example from a set piece. Van Duijl, despite being a central defender, can also position himself well in the opponent's penalty area. In this example, all of Cambuur's defenders are occupied with the opposing team's forwards, but van Duijl was in a position to get in on the ball that came from the corner kick. As you can see from this video analysis, van Duijl has shown in a very short time that he is a very valuable player and will certainly contribute to the team's better results in the Eredivisie.
