Image Aaron Ramsey, former Arsenal and Wales midfielder, has been appointed as the new coach of Oxford United. The 35-year-old coach joins the team after the dismissal of Matt Bloomfield. Ramsey only has brief coaching experience under his belt as Cardiff City's interim coach at the end of the 2024-2025 season. “Talking to the club has shown me their ambition and desire to succeed, which I'm very excited about,” Ramsey said. "This is a moment I have been preparing for for many years. I have played under top managers and experienced pressure at the highest level. I want to use this knowledge to introduce a culture of high standards, professionalism and work ethic within this talented group of players." Ramsey covers an Oxford United side as they prepare to play in League One after relegation from the Championship last season, where they finished 22nd. He ended his football career in April after a short stay with Mexican club Pumas UNAM in 2025. He scored 21 goals in 86 games for Wales, appearing in three major tournaments, including the semi-final run of Euro 2016. Ramsey played 369 games for Arsenal, winning three FA Cups and three Community Shields. After the 2018-2019 season, he moved to Juventus, where he won the Serie A title. He ended his short stay in France with Nice with a return to Wales, where he re-joined Cardiff City. His former Arsenal team-mate Jack Wilshere also manages a team in League One, having been manager of Luton Town. The pair had already met as coaches when Ramsey was in charge of Cardiff and Wilshere was interim manager of Norwich. Ramsey joins a growing number of young managers in the EFL. Although his playing career officially ended only in April, it can be said that Ramsey has been preparing for the role of coach for a long time. Oxford United can count on a new coach whose identity should be well received by both fans and the board. The fans and management want to see more offensive play from the team after two seasons of fighting for survival in the Championship. The timing of the coach change was questioned - more than a month after the end of the season. Oxford's players are returning to pre-season training, and Ramsey will have to deal with transfer plans and manage players who may be uncertain after relegation and a change of coach. --- ## Related Articles 1.
