Alessandro Simonetta, former Roma striker, gave an interview to "La Repubblica", in which he talked about his adventure with the giallorossi first team in 2004-2005. Here is one of the many anecdotes he told: "Such little things remain in my memory. My cleats tore during training. Daniele De Rossi, who was also a boy at the time, born in '83, was passing by and I jokingly said to him: 'Daniel, do you have any cleats for me?' I thought he didn't notice it at all. And the next day I found new cleats in the locker room. So that you understand how humble he was back then. On his historic call-up in the Champions League match against Real Madrid, Simonetta added: “I was at school. They called from the principal's office and I thought: Oh my gosh, what did I write again? And that was Bruno Conti. He told me: don't make any commitments for today, you are called up for the match. After school, you have to eat something and come to the training camp. And that's how I found myself on the bench in the match against Real Madrid with the Galactic team." Today Simonetta works in the police: "I was 24 years old, I played for Isola Liri, in the last season at professional level. There was a competition to join Astrea, a team of players who played in Serie D at the time. I was told: with a CV like yours, you qualified. And I said yes," he explained.
