England enjoy their 2026 World Cup adventure, forgetting about 'It's Coming Home'

BOSTON - At Boston's historic Green Dragon Tavern, the place where the Sons of Liberty met to plot against the English in the 18th century, England fans were in high spirits. Although their chants no longer include the slogan "It's Coming Home", the spirit of adventure at the World Championships in North America is alive and well. After a 0-0 draw with Ghana in Boston, there was no change in the mood among the English fans, who instead chanted: "We're on our way, we're off to New York, we're on our way!" Sean Robinson, a Tottenham Hotspur fan from London, emphasizes that expectations are not too high: "We don't expect much. We came for a trip, have a few beers and see what happens." Even though England was one of the favorites in the previous World Cup in 2022, the approach is now more relaxed. Eberechi Eze, an England player, stressed after the draw with Ghana that it was important to stay calm: "It's a long journey. You can't get too excited or too depressed. You have to focus on the present and enjoy what's coming."  There is also no shortage of fans who believe that Thomas Tuchel, the new coach, is the right man in the right place. West Brom's Anoushka Probyn believes England now have their best chance of winning. After a 4-2 victory over Croatia, one of the tournament favorites, the optimism among fans has increased, but they remain realistic. The form and fitness of Harry Kane, the team captain, plays a key role. If he can stay healthy, England have a chance of success. As England fans travel across North American cities enjoying new experiences, the pressure to win has taken a backseat. "I don't think we're great at defending. It's better to attack than to defend," adds Swindon Town fan Jamie Martin, suggesting this approach could be the key to England's success.
