The Argentine striker remains a priority for the Catalan club and their determination to secure his signature has increased following his recent public comments regarding his future. After he openly admitted that he wanted to leave Atletico Madrid, the transfer battle around one of the most desirable strikers in the world seems to be entering a decisive phase. In this context, according to 1a Vanguardia, Barcelona has already reached a framework agreement on a five-year contract with Alvarez. It should be remembered that Barcelona's sporting director, Deco, has already held talks with the striker's representatives, and both sides have reached an agreement on the terms of a long-term contract. The proposed agreement would keep the Argentine at Spotify Camp Nou for the next five years, if the transfer is finally completed. Barcelona's interest is supported by the striker's recent comments, which leave no doubt about his intentions. There is a growing belief within the club that they have already convinced the player, and the next challenge is to convince Atletico Madrid. Barcelona's biggest problem remains Atletico's refusal to talk to them at all. The Catalan club had previously submitted an offer worth nearly €100 million, but the offer did not trigger a formal response and since then relations between the two clubs have become increasingly tense. Following his public statements, Barcelona's management has now set a clear financial limit for the operation. The source in question assures that the club is not willing to exceed EUR 120 million in guaranteed payments, although the total amount could increase to around EUR 130 million as a result of bonuses related to achievements and additions. For Atletico Madrid, however, it is still up to them to argue that Alvarez is not for sale and have repeatedly invoked the €500 million buyout clause in his contract. While contractual obligations certainly give Atletico Madrid an advantage, the player's desire to switch clubs will ultimately force them to negotiate with Barcelona.
