Marcos Senesi (Bournemouth, Tottenham Hotspur next season) is going to the World Cup with Argentina. Manager Lionel Scaloni chose the defender as a replacement for the injured Leonardo Balerdi. Balerdi was dropped from the White and Green team, which will defend the World Champion title next year. A week ago he announced that he would not be able to help the team defend the title. However, Scaloni needed time to decide which of the club's players would take a break from their holidays next summer. Ultimately, the choice fell on Senesi. ![Image](https://webp.vi.cdn.pxr.nl/news/2026/06/11/5a0f0902d2b04051e72e96fc2f36ba1710f6be45.jpg?width=1200) The 29-year-old defender is not a completely new figure in the national team. Previously, he played three times, but it should be noted that all of these appearances took place in friendly matches. In group J of next year's World Cup, Argentina will play against Algeria, Austria and Jordan.
