Why did Andoni Iraola sign a two-year contract with Liverpool?

Andoni Iraola, former Bournemouth manager, has signed a two-year contract as Liverpool manager. This decision is unusual in the context of recent trends in the Premier League, where long-term contracts are often signed. For example, former Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior initially signed a six-and-a-half-year contract before leaving the club after just three months. So why did Iraola opt for a relatively short contract? In an interview with BBC Radio Solent, he explained that his personal preference was for short-term contracts with an option to extend. "I don't want to stay at the club just because I have a contract," he said. "I want to continue working because both sides are satisfied and want to continue cooperation."  Iraola added that he is not interested in the financial motivation that may be associated with signing a long-term contract. "Signing a contract just to make sure that if they release me, I will have money - that's not something that satisfies me. You have to earn that right every year. Sometimes, even if you don't achieve the best results, the club may be happy with your work and want to continue working together. Every year is a renewal of trust on both sides."
