Fulham contacts Alvaro Arbela to replace Marco Silva as coach

 Fulham is in talks with former Real Madrid coach Alvaro Arbela to take over as head coach following the departure of Marco Silva. Silva left Craven Cottage after five years at the end of the season and was subsequently announced as Jose Mourinho's successor at Benfica. Arbeloa ended his six-month tenure at Santiago Bernabeu, paving the way for Mourinho's return to the position. Arbeloa, who was previously the club's reserve coach, was appointed coach on January 12 following the sacking of Xabi Alonso. Fulham are looking for a new coach following Silva's departure earlier this month. The Portuguese was hired by Fulham in 2021 and in his first season he led the club to the Championship title and then to stability in the Premier League. He led the club to 11th place in 2025, setting a new Premier League club record with 54 points. The west London club repeated this result this season, winning 2-0 against Newcastle United on the final day of the competition. Under Silva, Fulham finished the season in 10th, 13th, 11th and 11th place in the Premier League. Arbeloa, a former right-back, won two European Cups with Real Madrid. He was also part of the Spain national team that won the World Cup and two European Championships between 2008 and 2012, playing a total of 56 matches. The 43-year-old also played for Liverpool and West Ham United in the Premier League and for Deportivo La Coruña in Spain. Arbeloa's first match as Madrid coach ended with a shocking elimination from the King's Cup against second-tier Albacete. During his tenure, Madrid were eliminated from the Champions League at the quarter-final stage, losing 6-4 on aggregate to Bayern Munich.
