Harry Kane is England's new top scorer at the World Cup

 Harry Kane became England's all-time leading scorer in FIFA World Cup history with his 11th goal against Panama on Saturday. Kane, 32, converted Jude Bellingham's cross to extend England's lead over Panama. Kane thus overtook Gary Lineker, who scored six goals at the 1986 World Cup in Mexico and four at Italia 1990. "Harry Kane is, in my opinion, the best English striker we have ever had," Lineker said on his podcast after Kane equaled his record in a 4-2 win over Croatia. “His overall game is what sets him apart from others.” Kane scored twice in the opening match, becoming the second English player to score in three different World Cups, joining David Beckham (1998, 2002, 2006). Kane, who made his England debut in 2015, scored his first international goal as a substitute in the Euro 2016 qualifier against Lithuania, needing just 80 seconds to open his account. In March 2023, he overtook Wayne Rooney to become the top scorer in the history of the English men's national team with 54 goals. Now, after 116 appearances, Kane has 82 international goals, which is still far from the records of Cristiano Ronaldo (145) and Lionel Messi (122). Kane began his path to England's World Cup goalscoring record with six goals in Russia 2018, including a hat-trick against Panama and two goals against Tunisia during the group stage.
