How much did Real Madrid spend on coaches under Florentino Perez?
Florentino Perez, president of Real Madrid, is known for big transfers and ambitious projects. However, his cooperation with the coaches also cost the club a fortune - over 75 million euros. Over the course of his two terms, Perez hired as many as 15 coaches, many of whom left with substantial severance packages. Each of them influenced the history of the club, and their adventures with Real Madrid are a constant sine wave of successes and failures.
Florentino Perez, known as one of the most influential presidents in the history of football, invested not only in players, but also in coaches. Since he first took over in 2000, Real Madrid has spent over €75 million on various related costs. This amount includes buyout clauses, compensation packages, severance pay and settlements. As many as 15 coaches worked under Perez, some of them returning, reflecting the ups and downs in the club's history.
Initially, when Florentino Perez took over, Vicente del Bosque did not cost the club anything by ending his contract. The first real coach in the Perez era was Carlos Queiroz, who joined from Manchester United. His dismissal after one season cost Real Madrid around €1.35 million.
The next years were a series of changes and experiments. Jose Antonio Camacho resigned after a few matches, which cost the club 900,000 euros, and Vanderlei Luxemburgo, the first Brazilian coach of Real, received 1.8 million euros after losing in court. After Perez's return in 2009, the club spent €4 million to buy Manuel Pellegrini from Villarreal, but after just a season he received a severance package of €2.6 million.

The biggest turning point was the era of Jose Mourinho, for whose arrival from Inter Milan Real Madrid paid about 16 million euros. Although his departure in 2013 did not require severance pay, the processes related to his employment were among the most expensive in the club's history.
Florentino Perez also did not skimp on Carlo Ancelotti, who joined from PSG for EUR 4.5 million, and his departure cost the club another EUR 3.7 million. Rafa Benitez, although employed for a short time, added another 4 million euros to the expenses.
The club's fortunes were changed by Zinedine Zidane, who won the Champions League three times, and his decisions to resign allowed the club to save millions in severance pay. His successors, such as Julen Lopetegui and Santiago Solari, also added to the bill, which eventually amounted to over 75 million euros.
Currently, Jose Mourinho has returned to Real, and his return was also associated with high costs. Florentino Perez is not afraid to invest in coaches, believing that they can keep Real Madrid at the top of world football.
