Ronald Koeman resigned as coach of the Netherlands national team after his team were eliminated from the World Cup in the round of 16, losing to Morocco. The 63-year-old Dutchman was heavily criticized for his tactical decisions during the tournament, although his team advanced from Group F without any problems.
After the match against Morocco, Koeman defended his choices, saying:
"You can think what you want about tactics, but we gave much less against a team much stronger than Sweden and Tunisia. And if I had to do it again, I would do it the same."
This is Koeman's second term as coach of the Dutch national team. His tenure ended after three years in which the Oranje failed to beat any team in the FIFA top 25 rankings, recording six draws and eight defeats.
