The action from the second half, when Bosnia was leading 1-0, was controversial. Bosnian goalkeeper Nikola Vasilj jumped to clear the ball, but in the process collided with Canadian striker Tani Oluwaseyi. Former England captain Wayne Rooney believed Vasilj should have been sent off, while former Premier League referee Darren Cann claimed Argentine referee Facundo Tello made the right decision by taking no action - there was no penalty or red card. The official offside decision meant that a penalty would not have been awarded anyway, although Vasilj could have been sent off. Darren Cann, who was a linesman in the 2014 World Cup final, said: "First offside was offside, but even without that it's not a penalty or a red card. The goalkeeper clearly plays the ball first and contact after that is inevitable, so it's not a serious danger. The goalkeeper clearly wins the ball and that's not a red card for me." Wayne Rooney had a different opinion: "It's a red card. We've seen before when players get a red card even though the whistle has already sounded. It's a dangerous game. I know he plays the ball first, but the contact that follows is dangerous." Olivier Giroud, the former France striker, saw both sides of the situation: "As a striker, I would be frustrated if I didn't get a penalty for something like that. On the other hand, I understand what Darren Cann is saying. The goalkeeper plays the ball and it was difficult for him to avoid contact." Now you can play the role of the referee and decide whether it should have been a red card.
