Kylian Mbappé is close to another historic feat with the French national team

Kylian Mbappé is approaching his 100th cap for France, another important milestone in his hugely successful career. Even as a young player, he stood out for his exceptional speed, efficiency and maturity on the pitch, as Guy Stephan, assistant coach to Didier Deschamps, recalls. Mbappé made his debut on March 25, 2017 as an 18-year-old and now, at 27, is the French national team's all-time leading scorer with 58 goals. His last two goals, in a 3-1 draw against Senegal, allowed him to overtake Olivier Giroud as Les Bleus' top scorer. In addition, Mbappé became France's top scorer in the World Cup, overtaking Just Fontaine, and is now chasing the records of Lionel Messi and Miroslav Klose, who each have 16 goals in World Cup history.  On Monday, Mbappé will reach his 100th cap against Iraq in Philadelphia. So far, he has played 99 matches, scoring 58 goals and making 84 appearances in the first team. His international achievements include 14 goals in three World Cups, eight in two European Championships and success in the 2021 Nations League. Before him in the ranking of the most frequently played players of the French national team are such legends as Deschamps, Vieira, Zidane, Desailly, Henry, Griezmann, Thuram and Lloris.
