Luca Stephenson at the crossroads of his career: possible departure from Liverpool

Summer in football is often an administrative period, full of small changes and reshuffles in team lineups. For Liverpool, however, this summer promises to be more significant. The transfer window officially opens on June 15, but the move around Anfield is already starting. As reported by The Athletic, Luca Stephenson has made it clear that his future at Liverpool may be reaching a decisive point. The midfielder, who returned from a loan with Dundee United that was interrupted by injury, realizes that it is time to turn his promises into lasting results. "It's going to be an important summer for me. If I stay, I'll want to do the pre-season tour [Liverpool travels to the United States in July and early August], hopefully I'll get some minutes on the pitch and make an impression," Stephenson told The Athletic. Stephenson, 22, has already had a taste of senior football in Scotland, having played 67 games for Dundee United in all competitions, scoring eight goals. This experience is important. It gives him proof of who he is beyond the academy, beyond his potential, beyond the controlled environment of Kirkby.  "I'm now at the age where I have to play in the first team, as I have done for the last few seasons. If it's at Liverpool, great. If not, I'll find a new adventure like other boys who have left and are doing very well," he added. Championship clubs are already interested in him, with Bolton Wanderers among those interested. The figure is said to be £700,000, including a resale clause by Liverpool. This structure makes sense - it gives Stephenson a platform, Liverpool protection, and both sides avoiding the limbo that can derail careers. Liverpool are already making strong decisions regarding the academy, with the likes of Kareem Ahmed, Emmanuel Airoboma, James Balagizi, DJ Bernard, Oakley Cannonier, Josh Davidson, Terence Miles and Jacob Poytress all being released. At the same time, the Reds are trying to sign a young Manchester City player, Xavier Alexander. For Stephenson, the preseason may yet be the final window to make an impression. However, a more logical outcome may be a permanent transfer, especially if the Championship club can offer regular play and responsibility.
