Manchester City is close to signing a young goalkeeper

After the 2025-26 season, in which James Trafford will most likely miss the FA Cup and Carabao Cup, City are looking for a new replacement in this position. Charles, who previously trained in Manchester City's youth system, is reportedly set to return to the club. Fabrizio Romano informs that Charles has reached an agreement with the Manchester club, and the formalities between the teams are being finalized. However, it is unclear whether Charles will remain at City for the upcoming season or be loaned out to gain experience. TalkSport also reports that Manchester City are close to bringing Charles back to the club, but emphasizes that the young goalkeeper is unlikely to take on the role of first-choice goalkeeper. It is planned to loan him out, which will allow him to develop further.  Pierce Charles is a promising player who stands out with his foot skills, which is crucial for a goalkeeper at Manchester City. He is also an effective goalscorer and performs well in the penalty area. At only 20 years old, he has a lot of development potential. There is speculation that Charles could be a replacement for Gianluigi Donnarumma, but if he is loaned out, City will need another goalkeeper on the bench. Coach Enzo Maresca may prefer Trafford as a goalkeeper who better suits the style of play he requires in building up from the back.
