Manuel Neuer sets a World Cup record!

Manuel Neuer, the German goalkeeper, made history by breaking the record for appearances at the World Cup among goalkeepers. In his second match after returning to the German national team, Neuer played in his 21st World Cup match, which allowed him to overtake the previous record holder, Frenchman Hugo Lloris, who finished his national team career with 20 appearances. Lloris retired from playing for France in January 2023, just weeks after losing the Qatar World Cup final to Argentina.  Neuer, although he did not initially plan to return to the national team, appeared on the pitch in the group match against Côte d'Ivoire. His career is still going on, and at the age of 40 he still has a chance to increase his record. Germany will face Ecuador in the next group match, which gives Neuer the opportunity to play in his 22nd World Cup match, provided his health allows it.
