Social media in euphoria after Cape Verde's first goal in World Cup history

After a goalless draw against Sweden in their 2026 World Cup debut, Cape Verde is once again delighting football fans around the world. On Sunday (21), an African team scored their first ever World Cup goal when Kevin Pina opened the scoring against Uruguay in the 20th minute of the first half.  The goal made the midfielder, who plays for Russian club Krasnodar, a new World Cup favorite alongside goalkeeper Vozinha, who kept a clean sheet against Sweden and gained millions of new followers on Instagram. However, Uruguay managed to turn the game around in the first half, scoring goals by Maxi Araújo and Canobbio. However, on social media, the feat of Kevin Pina and company was far greater than any number on the scoreboard at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, United States.
