2026 World Cup - Group L guide: England face challenges as they end 60-year wait for triumph

Group L of the 2026 World Cup, which includes England, brings a lot of emotions. Thomas Tuchel, the new national team coach, is tasked with leading his team through the group stage in a safe manner, saving as much energy as possible for the next stages of the tournament. Croatia was runners-up in 2018 and semi-finalists in 2022, making them a formidable opponent.  Ghana is hoping for a successful showing after unsuccessful campaigns in recent years. Even though they performed well in qualifying, their lack of success in the African Cup of Nations raises some doubts. Under the leadership of Carlos Queiroz, Ghana hopes to repeat the success of 2010, when they narrowly missed the semi-finals. Panama, making its second World Cup appearance, is looking to improve after a disappointing 2018 tournament. The team led by Thomas Christiansen looks more solid and hopes to advance to the knockout phase.
