World Cup 2026: Brazil, Spain and Portugal stayed in draws. Who has reason to worry?

All 48 teams have already played their first matches at the World Cup, which means time for first analyzes and, perhaps, overreactions after just 90 minutes of play. Before the tournament, six teams were considered the main favorites. Three of them won their opening matches, with the stars scoring at least two goals in convincing victories. France beat Senegal 3-1 thanks to two goals from Kylian Mbappé, Lionel Messi led Argentina to a 3-0 win over Algeria and Harry Kane scored twice as England beat Croatia which ended 4-2. The remaining three favored teams - Brazil, Spain and Portugal - ended their matches in draws, which may be worrying, especially since two of these draws were against lower-ranked rivals. However, it is worth noting that with the current format, which allows eight third-placed teams to advance, there is still a good chance for these teams from the group to advance.  Brazil drew 1-1 with Morocco, which was not a complete surprise considering Morocco had reached the semi-finals of the previous World Cup and won the African Cup of Nations that year. Even though Brazil didn't look their best, Vinícius Júnior's individual action saved the result. The midfield problems that were evident before the tournament have not yet been resolved, which could be worrying in the context of potential matches against Japan or the Netherlands in the knockout stages. Brazil Concern Level: 5. Spain drew goalless with Cape Verde, debuting at the tournament, which was the biggest surprise of the first round of matches. The Spaniards dominated possession, but their lack of effectiveness was reminiscent of their previous performances at the World Cup, where they were eliminated despite having an advantage on the pitch. However, Spain still has the potential to win the group and advance to the knockout stage. Spain's level of concern: 2. Portugal drew 1-1 with DR Congo despite João Neves scoring an early goal. Cristiano Ronaldo, despite his age, is still in the starting lineup, which raises some doubts about the effectiveness of Portugal's attack.
