Real Madrid reacts to the Supreme Court's ruling regarding concerts at the Bernabeu

Real Madrid quickly reacted to media reports regarding the ruling of the Supreme Court of Spain regarding concerts at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium. The club issued a statement explaining that the Court's decision concerns only procedural issues, not the legality of the concerts. It was emphasized that no court decision had been issued declaring the concerts inconsistent with spatial planning regulations. The case returns to the Administrative Court, where the arguments of the neighborhood association will be considered.

The club emphasizes that the decision was wrongly interpreted in various media. In their official statement, which came just a day after the club confirmed the rejection of their offer for Julian Alvarez, Real Madrid wanted to make clear what the verdict means and what it does not mean. "The Supreme Court has not issued any resolution regarding the legality of the concerts taking place at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium. The decision revealed today concerns only a procedural matter and means that the legal proceedings initiated by the neighborhood association will continue before the appropriate court." The club further clarified that no court order had been issued declaring the concerts inconsistent with planning regulations or applicable licenses. "Therefore, there is currently no court resolution finding that the concerts held at the stadium were contrary to spatial planning regulations or applicable licenses." The club also rejected the suggestion that the Bernabeu is treated differently to other major venues in Spain, pointing to a direct comparison with another rival stadium. "The organization of concerts at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium is subject to the same authorization and administrative control regimes as other large sports facilities, such as the Metropolitano Stadium, where concerts are also held." The legal proceedings will now return to the 31st Administrative Court of Madrid, where the substantive arguments of the neighborhood association will be heard. The association argues that the stadium's current environmental licenses do not allow it to operate as a music venue. Real Madrid, however, clearly states that today's ruling does not change anything in the current status of their concerts and that the matter will be resolved in the normal course of legal proceedings.
