René Hake is one of the main candidates for the position of new coach of Heart of Midlothian. According to the Scottish media, the 54-year-old Dutchman held talks this week with the authorities of the Edinburgh club, which are looking for a new coach after the departure of Derek McInnes. McInnes, who left Hearts for Rangers, took his assistants Paul Sheerin and Alan Archibald with him to Glasgow. Therefore, the Scottish club must not only find a new coach, but also build a new coaching staff. ![Image](https://webp.vi.cdn.pxr.nl/news/2026/06/18/e09a50e2438da7aebab780c0652af7d2281e2fe6.jpg?width=1200) For Hake, it would be a return to the head coaching role. The Dutchman recently worked as an assistant coach at Feyenoord, after which he finished his job there and is currently not associated with any club. Previously, his name was also linked with Leicester City, which ultimately chose Russell Martin. Hake has experience as an assistant to Erik ten Hag at Manchester United and as a head coach at clubs such as FC Emmen, SC Cambuur, FC Twente, FC Utrecht and Go Ahead Eagles. Hearts plan to complete their search for a new coach within a week. The Edinburgh club finished last season in second place in the Premiership, ultimately losing the title fight to Celtic. Despite this, the runner-up finish allowed them to advance to the second round of Champions League qualifying, where they will face Austrian SK Sturm Graz.
