Both Borussia Dortmund players have been linked with a move to the Spanish capital this summer transfer window, while Rudiger recently extended his contract with Madrid by a year. Schlotterbeck, among Dortmund's players, finished second in the Bundesliga in terms of duels won (158), third in aerial duels won (66) and second in the number of successful saves (37), playing in only 28 matches in the league. Nmecha, in turn, finished fourth among his teammates in terms of the number of successful passes (937) and duels won (117) in the league, and also had a significant impact on the game in midfield. Both players scored goals in a 7-1 draw in a friendly against Curacao, which further increased their value for the upcoming season. Real Madrid has already made several purchases this transfer window, acquiring, among others, Marc Cucurella, Bernard Silva and Ibrahim Konate, and Rudiger believes that there is still room for new reinforcements in the team. "Good players are always welcome. I would be very happy, absolutely," Rudiger said in an interview with Sky Germany when asked about Schlotterbeck and Nmecha's potential transfers to Madrid. On Schlotterbeck, he added: "Nico has always been a threat, especially from set pieces. He's aggressive, he's always in duels and his defensive play is outstanding. His left foot is gold."
