Senegalese fans outraged by US visa restrictions for the 2026 World Cup

 Senegal triumphed in the Africa Cup of Nations on January 18 and had earlier secured their place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup after a dominant, undefeated qualifying campaign. Normally, fans would enter the summer tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico with excitement and optimism. Instead, Morocco has been retrospectively declared the winner of AFCON, and fans' concerns extend far beyond how the West African team will fare in the "Group of Death" with France, Norway and the winner of the Iraq vs Bolivia play-off. Strict and costly visa restrictions on fans - and potentially even players - imposed by US President Donald Trump's administration have triggered complex emotions. Amidst the sadness, frustration and disbelief, many fans are considering boycotting the tournament even if they are able to participate.
