Scotland can achieve World Cup success, says Halliday

Andy Halliday, former Hearts, Motherwell and Rangers player, is optimistic that Scotland can go far at the World Cup if they can muster an extra 10% of their squad. The Scots have one win and one loss, and their next opponent will be Brazil, whom they will face on Wednesday at 11pm UK time. Halliday shared his thoughts on Scotland's chances on the BBC Scottish Football podcast. "If we can only get that extra 10% out of the group, we can go far in this tournament," he said. "You can get lost when analyzing the probabilities of advancing and who we might face in the 1/32 or 1/16 finals. But looking at potential opponents, there is no reason why we can't go far." Halliday highlighted possible matches against Mexico or Sweden in the round of 32. "Mexico will be a very difficult opponent, especially at the Azteca Stadium with its altitude and heat. But if we play against Sweden, who recently lost 1-5 to the Netherlands, we have a chance of success." If they advance to the round of 16, Scotland's potential opponents could be South Korea or Switzerland. Halliday remains upbeat, insisting that if Scotland improve their play they have a real chance of achieving a good result.
