New Zealand coach critical after defeat against Egypt at the 2026 World Cup

Darren Bazeley, coach of the New Zealand national team, expressed his disappointment after his team lost 1-3 to Egypt in the second round of the group stage of the 2026 World Cup. "It's a disappointment. In the first half we played very well, dominated possession and created many chances. In the second half we came out and, in my opinion, we played well, but we lacked pace. Egypt increased the tempo and we were not able to repeat what we did well in the first half. In the end, it was us hurt. We have one more match and we can make history. Now we know we have to beat Belgium," Bazeley told the official FIFA website.  In the first Group G match, New Zealand drew 2-2 with Iran, while Egypt took points from Belgium with a 1-1 draw.
