Norway's return to the FIFA World Cup is being celebrated with a Viking shout that has gained international popularity.
According to the BBC, the Norwegian national football team for the 2026 World Cup intends to use a Viking-style shout during matches that has gained viral popularity.
The shout, called "Himur Kraf", which loosely translates to "Row in formation", was coined by a group of fans who call themselves "The Vikings". Its goal is to motivate the team to fight on the pitch, as well as to unite the fans before and during matches.
What does it look like in practice? A group of "The Vikings" fans line up in front of the stadium in a formation resembling Vikings, and then begin to perform a rowing dance to the rhythm of drums and other musical instruments.
Videos of their performances have become viral on the Internet, and the shout itself is starting to be adopted by fans around the world. According to the BBC, "Himur Kraf" was recently performed by Norwegians at the stadium in Boston and in Times Square in New York.
Politicians have also aroused interest in this Viking cry. Last week, members of the Norwegian parliament, the so-called Storting, united to make a shout at one of the sessions of Parliament.
Norwegian fans hope that their national team will succeed at the 2026 World Cup and that the "Himur Kraf" cry will become known around the world - like the Vikings of the past.
