Wout Weghorst thanked Ajax fans and announced his transfer to FC Twente

Wout Weghorst, after two years of playing for Ajax Amsterdam, decided to say goodbye to the club and its fans through an emotional video message. During these two seasons, he played 65 matches and scored 20 goals. "Ajax fans, thank you. Thank you for your support from day one. We experienced many beautiful moments together, we celebrated many goals," said Weghorst, forming an Amsterdam cross with his arms. "I'm grateful, it was a truly amazing time." However, his time in Amsterdam was not all about success. Weghorst felt the pain of not winning the Dutch title in the 2024/25 season. "This shield is something really special. We were so close. I wish it were different, it's something that still hurts. It's the biggest pain of my career."  The lack of titles in the last two seasons means that Weghorst's time at Ajax has not been entirely successful. "I'm proud to have been part of Ajax, something I didn't expect as a little boy. But without the league title, my adventure here wasn't fully successful." Despite losing to PSV in the championship fight, Weghorst noted how great Ajax is: "Only then do you realize how many people are against you because you are so great." He also emphasized the importance of the fans' support: "You are very important to the club, sometimes also critical. Remember this, your influence on the team is huge. Go into the future seasons with a positive attitude and win the trophies that belong to Ajax. After all, Ajax is the biggest club in the Netherlands." On Saturday, FC Twente announced the transfer of Weghorst. Tukkers did not pay the transfer fee because the player's contract with Ajax expires this summer.
