Players and coaches associated with Jota in the past share their memories about him. Former Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher, who played with Diogo from 2020 to 2025, said: "I think about Jots (Jota) often. He was a great guy and truly one of a kind. He was always himself and stayed true to himself. He didn't care that he was a super famous footballer. He saw himself as a normal guy and stuck to his principles, that's why he mixed with everyone and everyone in the club got on with him. First time I met him him at our old training center in Melwood. Due to the pandemic, we were all divided into different dressing rooms and five, and he was one of my five. Our friendship started there and developed over time, especially off the field. He, like me, was interested in many sports, apart from those that you would expect footballers to be interested in, especially the Portuguese ones Robertson to go to the Cheltenham horse races because we had the day off, and to be honest, we didn't think about Jota at all, but he found out about it and came to us and asked: 'When are we going to Cheltenham?' I will always remember that situation. Arne Slot, former Liverpool coach who led the club from 2020 to 2025, said: "Diogo always put the team first and whenever he was needed, he was willing to fight for his teammates and the club he played for. After his death, I told the players that the best way to honor him would be to try to be just a little bit like him. For me, that's how he will be remembered." Paulo Goncalves, technical director of Pacos de Ferreira, the club where Diogo Jota played in his youth, recalled his first impression of Jota: "My clearest memory of Diogo Jota is his debut in professional football with FC Pacos de Ferreira at the age of 17. When coach Paulo Fonseca called him into the squad for the Portuguese Cup match in October 2014, Diogo immediately showed his talent, scoring a goal and staying voted man of the match in the 4-0 win over Atletico de Reguengos. I remember that after scoring the goal, he ran towards the stands where his parents were sitting and hugged his mother, who was moved to tears by this special and so important moment for both of them. I have a very clear image in my mind of this event and what it meant to Diogo, because his parents were always deeply involved in supporting his career, as was his girlfriend at the time, Rute, who had been with him since then. "This family unity was very important to him and that's why I emphasize this memory so much." --- ## Related Articles 1.
