David's performance in the opening match of the 2026 World Cup was disappointing, but Serie A's Canadians shined

Juventus striker Jonathan David helped Canada's team draw 1-1 with Bosnia and Herzegovina in the opening match of the 2026 World Cup, but his performance did not impress. The Italian newspaper "Gazzetta dello Sport" rated it 5/10. David started the match but was replaced in the 60th minute. Already in the 16th minute he had an excellent chance to score a goal, but his shot from the penalty area was too weak and was easily saved by Bosnia's goalkeeper Nikola Vasilj.  "Gazzetta" commented briefly on David's performance: "Tell Carnevali that he wasted a chance with his left foot." Carnevali is the new sporting director of Juventus, who replaced Damien Comolli on Friday. Two players from Serie A performed much better in this match. Atalanta's defender Sead Kolasinac was recognized as the best player on the pitch in the match against Canada and received a rating of 6.5/10. Sassuolo player Ismael Koné also played very well, and his rating in "Gazzetta" was 6.5/10.
