Atletico Madrid gives an ultimatum to Barcelona regarding the transfer of Julián Álvarez
Atletico Madrid has set tough conditions for Barcelona regarding the transfer of Julián Álvarez, demanding EUR 150 million in cash, without the possibility of exchanging players or paying in installments. This situation puts Barcelona in a difficult position given its budget constraints.
Atletico Madrid have set a price for Julián Álvarez at €150 million and require full payment in cash, complicating Barcelona's situation. Spanish media SPORT and Esport3 report that Atletico does not expect any concessions in the form of player exchanges or installment payments. This position puts Barcelona in a difficult position, as its operating budget for transfers is only around €120 million, including various allowances.
Barcelona had previously tried to negotiate with Atletico, offering amounts in the range of EUR 130-140 million, but these offers were rejected. The €30 million difference between Atletico's expectations and Barcelona's capabilities is significant, especially since Atletico requires full payment upfront.
Interestingly, Florentino Pérez from Real Madrid made an identical offer of 150 million euros, which was quickly rejected by Atletico. Although it is not known whether the offer was serious, it established a new market value for Álvarez.
It is worth recalling that Atletico Madrid acquired Álvarez from Manchester City in 2024 for £81.5 million, of which £64.4 million was paid in advance. A potential sale for €150 million would bring Atletico a significant profit in the short term. Despite this, the club does not seem willing to sell, as president Enrique Cerezo emphasized when he stated that Álvarez is not for sale.
The player himself has already expressed his desire to leave the club, telling ESPN that "the best thing for everyone is a transfer." His public statement weakens Atletico's position, especially if no agreement is reached before the start of the new season.
