New FIFA transfer rules: what do they mean for clubs and players?
Shortly before the World Cup, FIFA announced the introduction of a new transfer system. What does this mean for clubs and players, also in Poland? The changes are the result of an important case, the main figure of which was Lassana Diarra, a former Arsenal and Real Madrid player. In 2024, Diarra played a key role in a case that was quickly dubbed Bosman II, a reference to the famous 1990s ruling that changed transfer rules in Europe. ![Image](https://webp.vi.cdn.pxr.nl/news/2026/06/11/5a55db4af9d71056ea255ffa6921a6d5efec8483.png?width=1200) Diarra referred to Article 17 of the FIFA transfer regulations regarding the termination of contracts. He pointed out the lack of precise guidelines regarding the compensation that players must pay in the event of unilateral termination of the contract, which made this provision practically dead. Furthermore, there was a lack of clarity regarding sports sanctions. As a result, many players were afraid to take such steps. Influenced by this situation, FIFA decided to introduce new regulations that specify the rules regarding compensation and sports sanctions. These changes may have far-reaching effects, both for players and clubs, which will have to adapt to the new realities on the transfer market.
